Reply | What I see a lot is people whining about reg. Ive seen it in every cod game, but yet nobody will sit up and recognise the fact that the majority of the community are using settings which are terrible for registration. If you didnt know, we are basically playing a modded Q3, so this is still true.
I still see some guys play with maxpackets 63 for example which is a disadvantage for the opponent. Also I see many players playing with 333 fps(no sound bug,jumps)
FPS/Packets settings = Actual packets in game

250/100 = 83.34
200/100 = 100
166.6/100 = 83.34
142.8/100 = 71.43
125/100 = 62.5
100/100 = 100
90.90/100 = 90.90
83.33/100 = 83.33
76.92/100 = 76.92
71.42/100 = 71.42
66.66/100 = 66.66
62.5/100 = 62.5
So 250 fps - 100 maxpackets will give us the competitive mode we need.
Note: Although this is personal opinion, I have no issues killing people when I use terrible settings. I do however have a terrible time killing people who use these settings. I know this, and have tested it many a time by forcing proper settings on my cod2 server when getting bad reg, only to see what people get kicked for

Reply | Force maxpackets 100, rates 25000 and snaps 30. Remove TZAC & UAC due to both being horrible programs that are easily bypassed.
Get rid of the whole "toujane/burgundy only" mentality... and problem solved =) |

Reply | I would dissagree on "remove uac and tzac thing" cuz sadly there has to be some anticheat program but however i do agree its useless cuz its bypassed easly...and someone is making a damn good ammount of money on lowtards who are to low to play clean so they wnb some "namers".
I used to have maxpackets 63 cuz sometimes it reduces my ping for 15 on some servers.But now i use default cfg except 250fps,rate 25000,packets 100 and hunkmegs 512,people just dont understand that cfg will NEVER raise ur skill,and it never will.Its all in ur head and hands.
And really players with maxpacket 63 are harder to kill??? First time i hear (see) that lol.Not saying that u are wrong,i just dont pay attention on that...i just play |

These cl_maxpackets settings are used to optimize the connection between the internet connection and the pc itself.
If you would like to force people using maxpackets 100, you would cause completely the opposite that you want to! There wouldn't be any optimized setting, therefore it would decrease lot of players skill, not even talking about the missed shots, that would have been "in" with the optimized settings.
In the Q3 engine, for the fps you should use 1000/N, then the counter "sticks" on that fps. If you set anything else, it will go for the nearest 1000/N value, and will cause some kind of lag.
For maxpackets you should use com_maxfps/N value, so that it will be optimized aswell, so for example: 250/62,5=4
Also there are some useful commands, like cl_packetdup, snaps, etc...
With cl_packetdup you can set whether or not you want to duplicate packets. I would say it's supposed to be enabled. The value should be tested, each player should check their lagometer, if they are willing to optimze it... Personally i use it on 2.
Snaps should be set to the value of sv_fps, which (at least in cod1) can be checked with pb_cvarval sv_fps command.
So my point would be that in case you want to force any value for these commands, then force the optimized ones, or just leave it how it is now. If players are willing to read a lot, and invest a lot of time into optimizing their own config for their own computer (usually dloaded configs aren't that good, as they are optimized for different PCs), then let them enjoy that little bit advantage.
It's impossible that you cannot kill someone because he is using the optimized settings. You can't kill him, because you got used to the laggy mode, and most likely you haven't optimized your settings. So the problem is "around" you, and not in the guy, who optimized his config.
If you want a really competitive mode, then go back to maxfps 85 (it will stick at 91) and maxpackets 85.
It will be optimized, and i guess 90% of the cod2 community can reach this fps value fix.
But then the connection differences will come, as the guy with the lower ping will have advantage...
Conclusion: For really competitive gaming you should go to LAN. |

Reply | We love your service to the community, but these are valid complaints from top players. The problems are definitely not in optimization. We had these same debates when trying to force rate 25000 onto the community so many years ago, it really has noticeable effects.
I completely agree with supreme's evaluation. |

Reply | But in case of forcing why don't you want to force values to hte optimized ones. It would be better than making more lag, even small ones imo.
Also if it would be optimized, med- and lowskilled players would have more success in game, and the happier community causes higher activity.

Reply | me and crow forced all those settings in the first eurocup PAM together with all the optimised fps settings that were previously dev only.
especially in 2012 its impossible for anyone from any nation to not have an internet connection that can support a packetflow of 100/tc. (it was impossible at release of this game aswell)
this game has always had poor registration online and forcing players to have the same optimal settings would improve online registration for everyone.
afaik when this game was still alive maxpackets 100 were forced in the rules i have no clue what downer changed that. |

Reply | I think mouse sensitivity should be forced to 3.65. I still see some guys playing with sensitivity 10 for example which is a disadvantage for the opponent because they give me some uber lucky head shots.
And i still see some guys playing with maxfps 250 for example which is a disadvantage for me because i cant even lock to 125. fps should be forced to 41 |
