|Dear Clan-Leaders, dear mates,|
as part of my studies in social work I am writing my Bachelor Thesis on
"Killer Games" as social spaces for interaction - the importance of a membership in an online gaming clan
Therefore I want to carry out an online survey.
To be able to support this research empirically, I have developed a questionnaire which I currently dispatch to different Online Gaming-Clans, which play "Call of Duty - Modern Warfare". My work will be going about this (Tactical) First-Person-Shooter, because I play COD 4 for several years and am organized in a clan (Damned Defiants |D2|).
In the previous research on this type of games it mostly was a matter of
showing that there is a (or rather no) correlation between the game consumption, the experience of virtual violence and exercising real violence. My work wants to open a new perspective. I want to show that playing so called “killer games” is not (only) about the virtual killing or reduction of aggression, but many other motives for playing exist.
Especially I’ll deal with the membership in an Online-Gaming-Clan to find out which motivations players have to join a clan. My hypothesis is, that gamers deliberately join clans out of reasons that go far behind the game itself.
To obtain a good overview that is academically expressive, I depend on obtaining a relatively large sample. Therefore I would ask you to take a little time (approx. 10 minutes) and to answer the online questionnaire briefly.
By that you enable me to carry out a very valid investigation. On the other hand, results from this work are a possibility to move the genre of First-Person-Shooters into another light and to release the scene from the image of gunmen and / or socially underdeveloped freaks.
Since I am bound to a certain date with the submission of the work, I would ask you to return the questionnaires no later than 12/05/2011.
The link below will take you to the download:
By pressing the "Submit"-button your questionnaire will be forwarded to a data collector, where I can pick up the results. Of course, all questionnaires are anonymous!
Should you have further questions on the questionnaire or on the research project, please email me: D2Diabolo@googlemail.com (Stephan Kohler)
@ Clan Leader: It would be great if you could make some advertisement for the questionnaire among your clan members. You are not only helping me in my work, but also to put us players into another light and to change the negative picture generated by the media.
With comradely greetings
