Hi Polosatiy. Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Roman Tarasenko, I was born and live in Moscow. Currently, I'm studying programming at university and working on my site - http://ps.xaos.ru. I'm also a professional gamer.
Since when do you play FPS and which games have you played?
I began to play something like 1 1/2 year ago. Right when Q1 was dying and Q2 had its beginning. First, I played Q1, but when i got 3dfx, I immediately switched to Q2. I also played Starcraft semi-professionally.
What does the name Polosatiy stand for?
In Russian, it means "stripy" or "striped". It's just an original nick.
You recently released the most complete compilation of Q2 trick jumps (163 jumps in total) I've ever seen (download here). How long did you work on learning them all? Did you record them in between playing Q3, or were they recorded long ago during your Q2 days?
Hehe:) I've spent pretty much time learning them, so that I'd be able to do them even in a normal game. Later, I got the idea to record everything that I could do in one compilation. If I'm not mistaken, I did the most recent version when I was already playing q3test.
I read you won a UT 1on1 tournament in Moscow recently. Can you tell more about that tournament? Do you play UT regularly or just for that tournament? Did you win coz you're good at UT too or coz there's not much of a UT scene in Russia?
Yep, that's true. I'm not playing UT on a regular basis, but I've spent quite some time on it before the tournament. I've won because Q2, Q3 and UT are all equal to me (I'm often participating in Q2 tourneys still), and well, certainly, UT is not that big here.
The Russian team that won BWEC is called team Formoza after the main sponsor. From which clans are the team members? Will you continue to play with team Formoza, or will you be playing in your separate clans again?
You're quite wrong. This team was made from the best Russian clan - NiP (Nobody is Perfect), and exists for nearly 9 months. Also, we invited Devil long time ago, so basically this is same clan for us.
The Russian team attracted quite some attention by the way they play: Mitsumi mice, keyboards on your legs and screen size reduced to 14" - quite a special sight! What's the story behind this setup?
Hehe. It's pretty funny. The keyboard - in my childhood, I've damaged ligaments on my hand, and that stopped me from playing football (semi-professionally) and tennis. Later, when I started to play computer games, I simply couldn't keep my hands in a normal position for a long time. So I was the first player who played in a such way. So everybody thought that this is what makes me good, and did the same :). The mouse - my first club, where I began to play, was pretty poor and had only Mitsumi mouses installed. So i just got used and played with it. Again, everyone thought that this was my secret to success :). About the screen size - I'll tell you, that Pow3r was playing Q2 with viewsize 60 :), and he did pretty well... So, basically, everyone just got used to smaller monitors.
What are you guys gonna do with the €10000 you won?
We decided to invest some money in our site. We have pretty big plans about it, and i think it'll work out. It will be a XSReality/Challenge type of site, but for Russian people. The rest of the money we'll spend on partying :).
You mentioned plans to go to Frag 4 if you could get the visa sorted out. How's that coming along? Is the American embassy giving you guys a hard time like they did with PK-Pele?
We even weren't trying to go, as visas are very problematic in Russia. Also, as our team was listed only in waiting list, it was too risky for us to spend that much money.
