Background
Originally released in October 2007, The Witcher takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of a 'witcher' named Geralt, a travelling monster hunter for hire, gifted with unnatural powers.
The game's system of 'moral choices' as part of the storyline was noted for its time-delayed consequences and lack of black-and-white morality.
Enhanced Edition
In September 2008,
CD Projekt released The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, a complete overhaul of the game which could be bought at retail or with the original version patched for free.
The improvements featured in the enhanced version include over 200 new animations, additional
NPC models and recolouring of generic NPC models as well as monsters, vastly expanded and corrected dialogues in translated versions, improved stability, redesigned inventory system and load times reduced by roughly 80%.
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition also includes two new adventures; 'Side Effects' and 'The Price of Neutrality', as well as a mod editor that allows you to create new adventures. Lots of graphic and gameplay features inlcuding 100 new gesture animations in dialogue and cut-scenes, giving conversations with NPCs a more natural feel are included.
An improved inventory, auto-save option, auto-looting of containers and a character differentiation mechanism consolidate the numerous amount of bug fixes that the Enhanced Edition brought.
