The EuroCup X - Q3A CTF is over, and we have some Winners to announce!

These are the proud Winners of this EuroCup:

I hope all clans enjoyed playing in this EC. We had lots great and tense games. We had good coverage, match-previews for about 90% of the games, GTV was available for I think 100% of the games and Shoutcast for about 50% of the games.
I think this EuroCup was a success for most of us and we enjoyed putting this up for you, the clans, the players and the spectators.

I have nothing more to say than: Thank you all for this great season, and let's hope the next OpenCup (and hopefully EuroCup) will be even better!

UPDATE:
The EuroCup-Final "real" Matchreport is finally -online-, you can find it here.
Thx to ouze, finally

As ClanBase does not give away 3rd places "shared" to two clans anymore, GzD and 32nd would have had to play their match for the third place.

Derfel tried to contact 32nd Core, but as they did not want to play the match anymore, the Gunzoids are now declared to be placed THIRD in this EuroCup, and 32nd Core ends up being FOURTH!

Sad that 32nd did not feel like playing this single match anymore.

After the sad departure of RiGHT from all ClanBase Q3 Channels, it seems I am the one to cover this final for all you EuroCup CTF fans out there.

Looking at the bids on CBooky for this match, we see that S? is favoured by the crowd with a total of about 100.000$ on their side, opposed by only 62.000$ on the Broken side. This is not necessarily a huge difference, as we have seen much bigger differences at CBooky for other playoff matches in this cup.

Talking about the clans, it is quite difficult to tell which of those two clans has the bigger chances on winning the match. I have not seen both clans practicing a lot lately, judging from activity on IRC when looking for enemys. This could aswell be because of my relative inactivity after the FOE loss in this EC, though.
I for myself consider Broken the stronger clan at the moment. This has different reasons which I want to tell you now. The first aspect is, that Broken managed to finish the group-stages as first in their group, while S? has only come 3rd in their group, after it had looked like they would not even make it at all for some of the early weeks in this EC. With addition of thefou, things have slightly changed as this addition made a strong S? even stronger. Still, S? did never win their matches as convincingly as Broken did. Next aspect in favour of Broken might be, that some players of S? have to cope with a distinct loss in the CB NationsCup versus Sweden in 3 maps yesterday. For sure this can't be transferred completely to this EuroCup Final, but I think it could have some impact on the mental side of some S? players. I think most of this match will be decided by the defense of both teams, and to be perfectly honest I expect Broken to edge out S? here by a small margin. The S?-defense is nowhere near being bad, but I think that blad3 could make the difference in favour of Broken. On the offensive side of things, Taz' and ofcourse thefou are for sure not worse than what Broken can show by the means of calipt and his fellows.

I highly respect both teams, and a win of S? would not make me astonished in any way aswell, but for now I go with the win for Broken! I always think it is hard to predict the exact outcome of the maps, so I will stick to the simple thoughts I have. I think this match will either be decided in 4 or 5 Maps. In both cases, I expect at least 2 map-ties, being followed by 1 mapwin and another tie in the "4 Maps scenario". In case of 5 played maps I aswell expect 2 ties, this time mixed with 3 mapwins in between. In this case 2 mapwins going to Broken and only one going to S?.

Players of the match: I expect either thefou or calipt to end up as player of the match, because for me these two players make their respective teams outstanding.
Result prediction: As I already said, I expect Broken to win this match, my first guess would be with 6:4 matchpoints. S? has a good chance aswell if their Nations-Squad players manage to show more than they did yesterday versus Sweden.

All in all, I wish all spectators a LOT of fun watching this game on GTV provided as usual by Splatter-TV and the great Live-Shoutcast provided by iTG|lun and Radio ITG!
Hop in to #eurocup.q3 just in time at about 21.00 CET to get more information about the Shoutcast and GTV IPs!

After the surprising game between 32nd core and S? from a few days ago, tonight we have another interesting game which will decide the other finalist. Will it be Broken or Gunzoids ?

21:00 broken vs gzd - admin: ouze (warid: 3883800)

Looking at CBooky makes me feel that Gunzoids is the favourite for everyone. With the return of Derfel the spirit of the clan seemed back as well, in their quarter final. However, something that we should keep in mind is that the same Broken did defeat Gunzoids on a map in their group match and the game was quite close. So we should not just write off Broken just yet...

I expect a 3-1 victory for one of the contender. I'm not entirely sure though which of the clans. For now I'll say it will be Broken winning the game tonight. Maps... wcp1, w3, and... wcp9 twice.

At the moment Shoutcast is unconfirmed, GTV will be supplied as always by our friends from Splatterworld.de .

Note: the final has to be played this week. So schedule it right after this game of tonight! If not scheduled by tomorrow 0:00 then we'll force it to this friday.

We want the semi-finals played as soon as possible, hoping that we can still finish the cup before Christmas/New year. This means that there is not much time for scheduling (more or less only tomorrow) and the matches will have to be played on or before the 9th of December to make sure we can still have the final played this year (before Christmas).

The same will go for the Open Cup, but I have not yet gotten around to adding the matches to the database. So to the clans playing OC who read this: contact your opponent! You can read the playoff tree to find out who your opponent will be.

The final for the EC will have to take place in the period of the 13th of December till the 24th of December.

So, semi-finals 2-9 December (schedule asap) - final 13-24 December.

CBooky odds are up for the semi's aswell.

In under an hour (what idiot decided 19:00 as starting time?! *blames zine*), the quarter-final FOE vs S? will start. After the quite surprising win of Gunzoids.CTF yesterday, tonight it will be the last semi-finalist joining Gunzoids, 32nd core and Broken.

19:00 FOE vs S? - admin: Derfel (warid: 3841684)

I've been ill the past weekend, so the planned previews did not take place. And now I'm also late with this, but then again 19:00 is no decent time to start a game. Most people would still be doing the dishes and that's hard to combine with GTV. Maybe a lucky few who eat late can enjoy their food in combination with some quality Quake3.

That is what I expect for tonight. For me Clan FOE is the favourite for making the semi-finals, but S? seems to have gotten their act together again after a rought start in this EuroCup X. However, they'll need more then just having their stuff together. That's why I'm thinking that FOE will be the one joining Gunzoids.

As for the maps, I expect to see a CTF2, WCP1, WCP9 and maybe some surprising map like WCP5 or W7 as 2nd mapchoice from S? (CTF2 being their other choice). I don't expect that they'll need the full 5 maps, but I do expect that S? will not allow FOE to just push them over and put up a nice fight. 6-2 is my bet, in favour of Clan FOE.

As RiGHT does not seem to be available, you will read a pre-match writeup by myself for the first time in this EC now. (You have to know, I am more working "behind the scenes" with being mean in forcing games, helping with scheduling etc.! RiGHT usually is the "spotlight" guy :-) )

The CBooky odds for the Quarterfinals will be fixed at 50:50 because we all know what can happen at this level of competition.
Talking about the clans, I for myself would not hesitate to call GoS the more active clan than their opponents. As far as I have knowledge, GoS is practicing quite regularly. They had a strong showing in the group stages, and for quite some time it looked like they would end up top of the table. They were only stopped literally meters away from the finishing line by a last-matchweek loss to 32nd who grabbed the sunny side spot instead of GoS by the means of this win. The loss in this match was quite close, but distinctive with GoS losing the second map with 0:4 after a narrow 0:1 loss on the first, with cp9 being played twice in this match.
Nevertheless, I see GoS strong enough to really trouble the Gunzoids, and I am quite sure this match will take 5, or at least 4 maps to be decided in favour of one of these clans.

The Gunzoids had a very good start into this EuroCup season, winning all their matches except the very last one. They did not win most of them with a lot of glamour, but they won them after all. Quite similar to the cup-history of GoS, the Gunzoids missed out on the spot of the group-leader on the very last group-match. For Gunzoids, it all happened under different circumstances, though. Their last-week loss to FOE happened under the distinct absence of Derfel, who was missing on all frontiers for the Gunzoids. Not only had they hardly been playing practices and wars (drop from Jolt) at all before this group-match, but they aswell had to put up a strange lineup versus the very active renewed team of FOE. Recruiting players up to the very last minutes before the match finally was their only chance to get five allowed players at all.

Considering all this, people might tend to call GoS the favourites in tonight's clash. Looking at the season-start performance of the Gunzoids aswell as the return of Derfel, hopes arise that the Gunzoids got back into shape just in time to put up a decent fight against the Gamers of Sweden tonight and show why they were top of the table for almost all of the group stage.
Here we are with two very strong teams, both being unbeaten until their very last group-match! So let's see what both can show to underline their perfomance of the start of this EuroCup season.

My forecast of the result is: 6:4 Matchpoints in favour of GoS, after 5 maps with both clans winning their 2 chosen maps and a final decider.

EDIT:
I just got notice about the fact that the German community page www.quakersnet.com has put up a complete preview on the EuroCup X Q3CTF Playoffs! Even though the preview generally is in German, all the Interviews with 4 of the 6 playoff-clans are in English, so go ahead and read the German preview and the English interviews here!

Hi there, long time no see. So how's it going? That bad huh! Well nevermind your woes, because ClanBase are now bringing you the Quartfinals of the 10th EuroCup Quake 3 Arena Capture the Flag (try saying that with false teeth!), and what's even better is that inside the game are going to be shoutcasting both of them. Yes folks you heard me right, that's both of the games.

Hopefully I will also be able to join lun on the mic, although I am really quite busy at the moment offline so we will have to wait and see, but you don't really care about how chaotic, upside down, and stressfull my home life is, what you care about is when the games are going to be played. Well let me tell you my little kittens, the schedule looks something like this:

  • Sunday 21:00 CET GoS v gzd
  • Monday 19:00 CET FOE v S?

I guess lun will be broadcasting from about 30 minutes before the start of these games, and you can check this page, and the usual channels in IRC for the Shoutcast and GTV (no doubt those wonderful people at splatterworld will be providing their usual top quality service) ip's.

Well, time for the playoffs! With the deadline coming and going for the group matches (last night, which saw EYE winning over LKFF and SD playing jobos), it's now time for the playoffs to get done.

The deadline for scheduling is this Saturday 20th. The Quarter Finals will be played between 21st and 29th of November. Postponing to after this date is NOT POSSIBLE. Scheduling is now possible through the roster page on this cuppage.

Tonight:

21:30 GoS vs 32nd - admin: ouze (warid: 3765870)

This game is a big decider in Group A. Every possible result will have a different effect on the final ranking.

Option 1: 32nd core wins
No matter if it's 4-0 or 4-2 or 3-1, if 32nd wins the match, then 32nd will end as nr 1 in Group A, with GoS 2nd and S? as 3rd.
Note: this is due to xYz dropping. In my playoff prediction I mentioned that 32nd needed a 4-0 win. This is no longer the case.

Option 2: Gamers of Sweden wins 4-0
Now here it gets interesting. If GoS wins, they'll end nr 1 in the group. However, 32nd lost to S? in their direct clash during the earlier weeks of the group stage. This means that a 4-0 loss to GoS, will mean that 32nd ends 3rd and S? comes in at the 2nd spot.

Option 3: Gamers of Sweden wins 4-2
In this case the ranking stays as it currently is: GoS 1st place, 32nd 2nd and S? 3rd.

So, the outcome of tonight's match is going to finalise the playoff spots in the EuroCup. In the playoff prediction I predicted a 4-2 victory for GoS over 32nd. I'm not really sure if I should keep this result, but since I have no recent data on either clan to use for my opinion... hell, why not.

Prediction: GoS 4-2 32nd @ WCP1 (0-1), WCP9 (2-1), WCP15 (2-0)

Coverage: I'm not sure on shoutcast for tonight. Sorry, but haven't spoken to Lun in week(s).. GTV will ofcourse be provided by our friends from Splatterworld.

The CB Heads have revised the (rather outdated) general cheating policy to better fit today's needs.

The main change is, that:

  • cheating in ANY other league or public game or pickup will result in the SAME punishment as if the cheating had happened in a ClanBase official match.
  • Before this was changed, we could only punish people that had cheated in a ClanBase match (some of you might remember 1 or 2 of such cases).

With this major change, we can now punish everyone for cheating anywhere.

Read more about the exact changes here.
