| Interview with Popcha | |||
Hello Popcha. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself, some personal info, and what's your role in Team Latvia? | ![]() Nick name: Popcha Real name: Konstantin Popov Age: 19 Country: Riga, Latvia
Hello, my name is Konstantin, I'm 19 years old. One of my hobbies is playing Counter-Strike and also I'm training for paintball. I'm not only captain, who gathered together all players, but also in-game leader. In real life, I'm web developer.
Can you tell us about your CS career, when did you start playing CS, what teams did you play for, what team do you play for now, and what are your goals in Counter-Strike?
I'm playing Counter Strike since 2000. During my career played for different top teams, also tried to manage own team. The best known could be Hacker IT, when we qualified for ASUS series cup in Moscow. For the past two years I have no active team. My goal is raising counter-strike's popularity in Latvia and I'm hosting own project with free game servers for everyone.
How's Latvian CS scene doing at the moment. Which are top 5 teams in your country?
Scene is very poor presented, almost no new talented players in last 3-4 years and few teams at all. We have up to 5 teams. By team I mean not the 5 random players who play everyday tournaments, but real squad, who practice and can compete with top teams from Lithuania and Estonia.
Name some top teams from your country.
escalate, iGO, headache, koxx
Last night you, with your nation, managed to come trough our qualifiers beating Lithuania in a hard match, and Serbia before that. Can you tell us something more about these matches, how did you prepare etc.
Before the tournament, we played local online tournament once, where we managed to win, and then three on .de server, to get used to high ping. About team Serbia we knew almost nothing and prepared for the real battle, but when we started to win round by round, we knew it will be easy win for us. Then before the next round draw I though "any team, but not Lithuania" , because it's very inconvenient opponent. Before the match all odds were against us, but we proved, that we have guts.
What went trough your head when you threw away that lead on train against Lithuania?
There were two breaking moments. First, when I took eco round, by killing 4 players. Second, when we lost three on one. All the players were very sad, there was nothing to add. We did not even argued. It was very nice, that there was no tuscan on the server and we had time to cool down and get ready to fight again.
How about reactions in your country? Everyone is very happy I guess.
Before the match a lot of players thought that we will lose in two easy maps, because Lithuanian teams are dominating over Latvian for a long period now (5-6 years ago it was otherwise), but after the match I opened match channel, where more than 200 gamers shouted and celebrated our common victory.
I heard there were over 700 spectators in your last match. Do you think this very good result will attract even more viewers from your country, and how do you think results like this can help you community in general?
Guys who where spamming this match made a great work and that's the result. By the way on the previous match we had up to 450 spectators. Thanks goes to our manager Casual and osi, they have performed great tasks. It gives us strength to fight :) I hope it will give motivation to our teams, we showed that we can beat stronger teams. It could sound sadly, but it will be forgotten very soon.
| |||
You are going to compete with the best nations in the group stage. How well can you prepare for that, and what do you expect from your team?
We'll try to focus on tactics, because personal skill is very competitive to my mind. Don't know the seedings yet, but I feel that we'll finish the group stage on second or third place if there will be six teams in one group.
Thanks for this short chat Popcha. Do you have anything else to add in the end?
Thanks to you for spending your time managing this great cup ;)
