Introduction
This document summarises the various terms used in the ladder rulebooks, and the types of challenges CB supports. Hopefully, it should clear up many issues that arise with misunderstanding. This document should not be considered as complete and may be revised later without notice. It is important to note that this is not a set of rules and the ladder rulebooks should always be read.
Challenge Types
The following describes the different methods of challenging in our ladders. Automatches and Open Challenges may be switched off in certain ladders if it's clear that they're being abused. "Clan" is a general term and can count for both team and 1on1 ladders. In all cases, you must first have joined a ladder you wish to challenge in.
- Normal method - A clan directly challenges another clan which is in the same ladder, each team may pick any map they wish and a date/time (with two alternatives available). Once a challenge has been made, the opponent clan must then accept the challenge, counter-challenge, make an 'excuse' (when available) or hibernate in the ladder.
- Automatch method - Clans can make up to 7 automatches in a ladder, and can pick specific days (once) or a weekly challenge. Clans can pick the time range, a list of maps they're willing to play and alternative team sizes (when applicable). Clans with recent no-shows and forfeits cannot make automatches. Each night, ClanBase will automatically pair automatches which match each other, based on the settings the clans chose, and picks from a list of maps the clans chose. Automatches are paired less than 24-hours before the match time. After pairing, the match is treated like a normal challenge.
- Open challenges - The open challenge form is similar to a normal form, but with extra options. A date and time is chosen, with an option for two alternatives. Saving preferences will mean any options a clan chose for that ladder will be saved for next time. Clans can pick your level and the levels that clan are willing to let their opponent choose. They can then add restrictions: ratings (points) differences; minimum judge ratings; and whether or not new clans can accept the challenge. Once submitted, the Open Challenge appears in a list that can be searched by opponents, who can filter challenges that cannot be accepted by them. If a clan finds a challenge they're interested in, they pick a map from the list (which the first clan made), and a time. The match is then created and is treated like a normal challenge.
Terms
24-hour rule - The 24-hour rule dictates that players cannot play in ladder matches straight after they have been added to a clan. They need endure a waiting period of 24 hours before they can legally play for that clan. Players who have been away from a clan for more than 18 hours are considered new again so they must wait another 24 hours before their first match. The 24-hour rule is designed to reduce the amount of freelancing that occurs, whilst protecting new clans. In this respect, the 24-hour rule doesn't apply to newly created clans, who are given 48 hours to create a decent player-base before the rules start applying to its players. Clans are punished with a forfeit loss for using players who break this rule.
GUID - GUID's are unique identification numbers and are dependent on the game you play. They are explained in detail in our .
Fake match - A fake match is a match created with the ClanBase system, that has not been played by the players or clans. When a fake match is discovered, the offending clans or players are suspended from all ClanBase ladders without any prior warnings. We have an on-site system that catches fake matches, which is 95% accurate. If you have been accused of creating a fake match, you must provide evidence that the match was played to the supervisor who reported you. The supervisor's name should be on your clan's page. Acceptable proof would be a demo or screenshots of the match.
Forfeit loss - A forfeit loss is the standard punishment for violating the rules, unless rules specifically demand another punishment. The punishment: -120 points in the ladder for clans who are punished; +10 points in the ladder for the clan that were correct. If both clans are in the wrong, clans will not be given a forfeit of -120 points each but the match will be cancelled. Continually receiving forfeits will result in your clan's suspension.
Freelancer - A freelancer is a general term for a forbidden player. It encompasses a player: with the incorrect GUID registered on the site; who plays with nicknames other than he/she is registered with; who plays in the name of someone else; who is violating the 24-hour rule. Also known as a 'ringer'.
Hibernation - Hibernation is the official state for clans who are no longer active in the ladder so cannot be challenged. A clan's 'Matches' page show all the ladders that a clan is hibernating in. Clans who are hibernating no longer have a 'rank' and must play an official match to get all their points. Hibernation inflicts a one-off penalty of -32 points.
Ladder - A non-stop league where opponents move up or down the rankings depending on their previous amount of points, and whether they won, lost or drawed. Activity is based on the number of matches in the last 30 days. The ladder supervisor is responsible for the conflicts, feedback and complaints of their ladders. Ladders are never reset, and are closed when their activity reaches zero matches per month. Ladders are added when we feel they will be active on our site, and petitions help us decide which ladders should be added.
Ladder suspensions - Clans and players can be suspended from playing in certain ladder(s) upon violating the ladder rules. Suspension length varies from type of violation and number of offenses. See for details.
Match conflict - A match conflict arises when two opponents cannot agree on the correct score. They are past onto the ladder supervisor or a judge, who decides which opponent receives the points, based on a strict set of rules.
Match report - A page that is made when an opponent creates a report for a match. This page allows comments to be made about the match.
No-show - A no-show is the punishment used on clans or players when they do not show up for a war, or when clans do not have enough players for a war. No-shows must be reported in the ladder IRC channel to count. Opponents who receive a no-show win get +10 points and the other clan is penalised with -10 points. No-show penalties can also be used as minor punishments to other offences and it is the standard punishment in conflicts when clans do not make a score claim.
Ranked/Unranked - A ranked clan is a clan who have a position within a ladder (i.e. rank 20). Therefore, to be ranked a clan must play at least one war in a ladder. An unranked clan is a clan who hasn't played yet in a ladder, who was removed or kicked from a ladder but had rejoined, or a clan who is officially hibernating in that ladder. Unranked clans are not punishable by our shared line-up rules and cannot be challenged by opponents.
Regions - Some ladders are restricted to particular region (or country) in which only players or clans with enough players living in that country/region are allowed to participate in.
European ladders are considered international and have no such restriction, however clans and players must play on a server within that region unless agreed otherwise by both parties.
Shared line-up - Clans who have similar players in their rosters/player lists, or clans who use similar/the same players in their matches are described as sharing line-ups. To share line-ups, clans would need to be in the same ladder and ranked.
Supervisor - Ladder Supervisor (Admin) is the person responsible for making sure the ladder runs smoothly. He or she handles match conflicts, ladder applications and also reports fake matches. When needed the contact information can be found on the right side of the ladder page.
Top 5 - ClanBase use an ELO system and our ladder leaders are assigned by beating the previous ladder leader. The top 5 are able to challenge the ladder leader without constraint, whereas challenges from those outside the top 5 can be declined freely. When a top 5 clan defeats the ladder leader, they are made into the ladder leaders. The clans in the second and third spot are considered powerful within a ladder, and can have special icons (awards) next to their names, in active ladders. The number two automatically becomes the ladder leader if the leader is removed, hibernates, or is defeated by a clan outside the top 5.
wid - The unique identification number of a match, which is present in the URL of match report pages. Deletion notes refer to a 'wid' when a clan is deleted for making fake matches. The correct website address is: http://clanbase.ggl.com/warinfo.php?wid=number.
