After the 2 final matches, we have finally reached the end of the season now. It was a very controversial NationsCup season with some points in the rules arguably not being perfect. I still think it was a nice NationsCup with a lot of great games aswell as some odd blowouts - but in the end it payed off to pick up Q3CTF for a NationsCup at ClanBase again.

It took another long server & players search before the bronze final could start tonight. As expected by many of you, the French guys managed to win the match. Team UK couldn't win a single map but managed to eventually tie the score at 1-1 on the two last maps before losing them. This three mapper took place on q3wcp1, q3w3 and q3ctf2.

After yesterday's final, today we have the Bronze Final on schedule:

The UK has come a lot further then many had expected. At least further then I expected the team to come. Then again, I didn't expect to see the old bigguns like deus playing. Derfel has been seen on several pickups, so maybe he'll also be back although he's not on the teamlist of Team United Kingdom yet.
In the playoffs UK lost without much of a chance to Team Belgium and in the group stage they already lost once to Team France.

Tonight Team France will be looking forward to repeat that performance, although in that game France did not realy totally impress, with "only" a 1-0 and 2-0 victory. In their playoff game versus Team Sweden the Frenchies put up a great fight and that was a great game. Hopefully tonight will bring a Bronze Final with more action and more captures (for both teams!) then the Grand Final of last night.

For the maps I expect q3ctf2 & q3wcp15 (fr) and q3wcp5 & q3wcp1(uk), with an outcome of like 3-1 in maps or maybe even 3-0. But I hope that we'll see the full 5 maps of course :) Good luck to both clans. RiGHT out!

SWE was the favorite with a Nationscup victory in 2005 and some second and third places, while BEL was in the role of the underdog. But surprisingly the Swedes found no way into the game and BEL could beat them in 3 straight maps to win the first Nationscup title in their Quake 3 CTF history.

After the NationsCup for Q3CTF has been away from ClanBase for a while, we've now had a succesful season with a lot of attractive games. Tonight is the (almost) closing chapter, with the bronze final still to be played, but the grand final taking place this evening. And an interesting game it will be.

Team Belgium has been the dark horse of the cup since the start. Many expected a lot from the Belgian team, but it had to be seen how well they would do against the Swedish and French powerhouse. In the group stage Team Belgium already met up with Team Sweden, which was a very interesting and rather close game. w3 0-0 and wcp1 (I would almost say 'of course') won by the Swedish by 2-0 in captures. This was the only game where Belgium lost a map. Their previous game, the playoff match versus the Team United Kingdom was a blow out. The British team could not impress and Belgium won by big numbers.

Looking at the trackrecord of Team Sweden on the other hand, we see a lot less convincing groupstage. Dropped points versus Poland in week 1, where they lost the first round on 'their' q3wcp1! Week 2 was the game versus Team Belgium where they tied one of the maps (so again lost points)... and in week 3 they even lost, to Team Germany. A tied map and a loss. But somehow the Swedes just know when it's time to shine and give their very best. For example in the playoff match against Team France (matchreport). The game was played out over the whole max of 5 maps and each map was a hard fight with good action, if you havent seen it then you did miss out on a great match. But, again, the Swedes knew it was crunch time and they gave their best and managed to take the spot in the final.

So, now tonight... the grand final. Team Belgium versus Team Sweden. The Kingdom of the plasma spammers (according to Godsmurf), versus the Kingdom of the cess maniacs (according to ProZac). Who will win? It will be a close match, that is for sure.
I hope to see 4 or 5 maps, definately a q3w3 (be) and a q3wcp1 (se), surely a q3wcp9 (be or se) and maybe also a q3ctf2 (be). I dont expect Belgium to pick q3wcp15 as the Swedes managed to beat France there, but I dont see Sweden picking q3wcp15 themselves.
Lets say 3 to 1 in maps for Sweden.... but it could just as well be the other way around. As long as it is not a 3-mapper, then I'm happy with the outcome either way.

As you might all have noticed, Team Sweden and Team Belgium have reached the Grand Final. This match aswell as the Bronze Final between Team United Kingdom and Team France will take place between Thursday, 6th of March and Thursday, 13th of March. The four Nations have time until Wednesday, 23.59 CET to schedule those 2 matches.

The Polish players tried on both wcp1 and wcp9 but could only cap once on each map. Meanwhile, the Belgian team secured a spot in the playoff with 4 caps on the two maps played tonight.

Tonight we have 1 match on schedule that will decide on the final placement in Group A! Due to the current ranking rules, a win by Team Poland will secure a spot in playoffs for Team Germany and Team Sweden, while a loss against Team Belgium would make those qualify instead of Team Germany. I'll consult the cup-chiefs once more if I am looking at the rules in a correct way because they are not 100% obvious, though.
