One member of each team has been interviewed and was asked to comment on their team's progress so far, their view on this match and several other interesting things. At the bottom of this page you can also find a statistical break down between the clans, as well as the CBooky odds.
Interview with Hello ulo, could you tell us something about yourself?Hello! I am 24 years old swedish dude, currently living in Gothenburg were I study Computer Science.
Not at all, they came with a really good lineup. When we saw it we all knew it was gonna be really hard to win. We tried and failed, not much more to say.
Yeah really much! If there is one of the clans I would like to play it would be Dj! However it has to be even more fun for them since they can execute "revenge" for the groupstage ;)!
It's the combination that really appeals to me. You have this combination of skills. The rawfragpower of some points while others have those sneaky around the corner stuff. Also the best part of iDOM, if you know how to help eachother out on different points you can gain a huge advantage even while being heavily outfragged. So yeah really the combination of different skills needed to be a good clan makes it really interesting and makes for a more fun game!
That's a though one! The point I like most is probably Club on Cidom, however I am not 100% happy with the entire map. Same goes for Malice, I love playing ramp and thinks Ramp and Corner are awesome points, but Top just ruins the map. So I would prolly say that my favourite over all map is Olden! Yeah really! It has all those small stuff you can do and really make use of the entire map. Great layout, which makes for a great map to have good teamwork on!
Worst map ever played online in iDOM is MetalDream, such a useless map! The elevator system and the teleport, nah the map is plain boring! Worst map in the current maplist I would say is Condemned. Really guys, the map is made with the thought of haveing a translocator! Same as a map like lavagiant, we stopped playing that one so please just send Condemned down a abyss!
Being sure what Dj is gonna pick aint easy, if they will pick Cinder? Well they have a good tactic on it and know the map really well. However we have done some good results on it which I think will make them atleast rethink the desicion once or twice! I would say the chance of them not picking is higher then they do it, but with Dj you never know!
Yeah quite neat thing! You can pop it up when you wanna look at it and when not it doesn't take all the space in the menu!
vl'hurgs comes from "A hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" and is one of the species there. Don't ask me why they named the clan after it however!
It was quite some years ago I was told what it was...
Yeah me and the other members of vl thinks it's a brilliant idea. Specially since we allready used to participate in all the different mods! We are really up for trying it and hope many others are aswell. Hopefully it will bring a bunch of nice, friendly games!
Well nothing more special then discuss which map to pick for the evening. That aside, nah I dont do anything special before each game.
Of course! Apart from a few clans dropping and a few no-shows it has been a good cup!
Keep up the good spirit and focus on having fun, that is what's gonna keep any game alive! Good luck to all in the remaining games aswell! :)
No Problem!
Interview with Hello denz, could you tell us something about yourself?Sure thing! My name is Dennis, 26 years of age, and I'm currently studying computer engineering.
I think our goal this season was to try and go for the final four, which we made. So I guess you can say we are satisfied, yes. I knew B$C would be a hard game, but I think we actually had our chances, and we gave them a good run for their money both times we met. But all in all I think we can look back at a great cup so far.
I am very much so, yes. Not in the least to have the opportunity to take revenge for them beating us in the groupstage ofcourse. In general I look forward to every iDOM game, but matches like these fighting for third place are always special. It should be a good show :)
Hard to say, but for me personally I would have to say it's the people that play it. I've been playing iDOM now since 2003 I think, and in all those years I've rarely seen things turn as sour as they have been in more recent iCTF cups. The mode itself appeals to a wide variety of players and different styles, as there's something in it for everyone. If you're just into hard fragging, you can. If you're more of a tactician, playing hide and seek, you can do that aswell. You can't really lame either, like you can in iCTF, or at least it will do little to help your team getting a victory.
The maplist is fine as it is. Some people know what my preferred maps are, and sadly enough most in Dj don't share my opinion on that. Bullet will always be a good map for me, as I am one of those that prefers the hide and seek style of play. Although lately I have been 'demoted' to playing a lot of fragging positions. Only map I really dislike is Cryptic. Always on my list of maps to get rid of. And gearbolt-ce.. Not happening :p
Hehe, and FinalHour <3
Are you fishing for compliments on your self-made menublocks now? :p It looks good really, I like it when the information you need is easily accessible, but doesn't take up half the screenspace.
I will be very surprised if they don't pick CidomCE again. They are a really good team there, which was shown when they last beat us in the groupstage. Cinder I wouldn't advise to them though, but if they want to, by all means please do :)
I think it's a good idea. Dj just joined the 2k4 iMix cup which is built upon the same principle, and has been very successful in the past. Combining the most popular instagib gamemodes together is a good move to help keep the game alive and fresh, and is needed much more than, say, another NationsCup which is only appealing to a minority of the players out there. Good luck to Decl and Email :) And yes, Dj will sign up for the UT99 edition aswell
Not really a ritual, but I like to make sure I'm on TS on time so I can debate on what maps to pick, and perhaps discuss some gameplan beforehand. And I usually have a coffee before we start.
As long as there are enough clans to make it happen, I'd say yes. People have been saying this game is 'dead' for years now, but those comments usually come from players who aren't even involved anymore themselves. Or the ones that say they'll quit after every season. Until a cup needs to be cancelled due to lack of participants, I'd say keep trying every season. Provided a supervisor is willing ofcourse :)
I've supervised a fair share of cups in the past, and it can be a lot of work sometimes. But if there's one cup that I would do again if needed, it's iDOM :)
Shout out to everyone still playing and enjoying this nice gamemode, and to you and Email for making it possible :) Keep up the good work!
No problem, thank you for your work this cup :)
