Playoffs ready!
by: doz3r
We have finished with group stage and playoffs have been created as seen in rankings page. Matches start 5th March, so all matches must be scheduled (challenged) in roster page by Wednesday 7th March, otherwise admins will force the dates as they see fit.

Whether you win 2-0 or 2-1 does matter when there is a 3-way-tie (and that's why Denmark is 3rd), so it's not completely irrelevant.

Actually, taking the match between two tied teams as the decider (and not the map difference or something comparable) is also used in other sports, e.g. the groupstage of the European Football Championship and UEFA Champions League (source: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direkter_Vergleich).

well I personally dont like the idea that it doesnt matter if you win 2-1 or 2-0. And if, then there should at least be a decider if its 2-2 in games imo.
And if nothing of this then at least fix the table somehow, place 3 goes thru and 2 is out is ($%=)§!"

In my opinion these rules are as they should be, even tho Denmark didnt go through either. I understand the frustration coming from Yellack as Denmark was in allmost the same situation. UK got default win against Portugal, so even without a "desider" game they went to playoffs. Allso they "forfeittet" the game against us in the first place, but as I personally hate default win/loss games we played the match anyway

Unfortunately these rules are general rules written by I-don't-know-who and they are not based on mapwins, just wins. In case of quakelive, it might not be the best system, but there's very little we can do about it. :-/

In my opinion, since im not from either of those countries involved, I think the hungarians should advance into playoffs since they won over Germany in the direct match, thus they are better and have the right to go further.

I think the rules are correct here and not stupid.

I understand that Germans r upset about the outcome, but that's sport.

GER - AUT 2-1
HUN - AUT 0-2

GER - ESP 2-0
HUN - ESP 2-1

from that view we are clearly better

and even in the deciding game, we could (Yes we didnt) win 2-0
GER - HUN / Purg 170-113 / HF 200-205 / DP 151-158

The clear fact that rank 3 goes thru and rank 2 is out doesnt seem a little weird!? Anyway, I accept the rules, while I still remain to call them stupid.

These rules make perfect sense to me to be honest. The point of playoffs is to get best teams to fight for 1st place, so of course only best teams should advance to playoffs (currently top 2 teams from each group). So if we have team A and team B, sharing second place in their group, it is obvious that if team A beat team B, team A is better (despite their shared spot calculated by number of wins) and hence team A deserves to advance to playoffs.

In case of three-way tie, this of course doesn't work because A beats B, B beats C and C beats A. In this case, the winner is the team which was able to lose the least number of maps and win the most number of maps. That's why mapwins are introduced for decision making in three-way tie. If you are able to win more and lose less than your oponents in three-way tie, it shows that you are more skilled and more suitable for the playoffs.

No, because thats a 3 way tie in group b, in which case the map wins do matter.
("If the national teams are still tied (E.g. in the case of a three way tie or more) the following rules are applied to determine final rankings (in order of importance):

Net Secondary points between the tied national teams which are shown on the ranking page (E.g 24/10 - Net Secondary points are 24 - 10 = 14). Be that flags / mapwins / rounds / tickets.")

Btw, check this one: http://clanbase.ggl.com/rating.php?lid=2928

soLAW advanced to playoffs instead of PPP despite having worse NET, because PPP lost against them. Just an example.

still a stupid rule, gl anyway

Biggest lol rules I've ever seen, GG!
#2 feeder (ZIGI )  5 Mar 2012 17:08
I've already contacted the admins and they will probably fix it, as it's obviously a mistake.
#1 XronDS (XronDS)  5 Mar 2012 16:58
why GER advance to the playoffs and HUN out, if:

Group rankings are worked out by the following rules, in order of importance:

Number of Wins.
Number of Draws.
Result of the matches between the tied national teams.
