Chez looks Thunderstruck in this 5 Mapper
by: Sypher
Chupas - Twists, turns, untimely deaths, and 5 maps are needed to decide this exciting match.

First level: DawnBunkers (Chupas Netherlands)
Quick and easy. Chez ran off two nice, clean runs in the low 3:00s. Thunder died multiple times and never capped. Great start for Chez. Short rep on this map they started the map without me!

Cheziie win by 2 to 0

Second level: Contaminant (Chupas Netherlands)
Not much to say here. Both players knew the map well, but Chez took the first death midway through the map. This gave Thunder a nice cushion as he capped for a 1-0 lead. Thunder proceeded to die early on during his second run, but he had built himself a nice cushion.

Chez capped soon after, but the lead was just too much to overcome and Thunder had no intentions of making any mistakes. Thunder capped a second nice run and evened this match up at 1 map apiece.

Thunderdome win by 2 to 1

Third level: Efreet-v2 (Chupas Netherlands)
Both players moved quickly through the early sections with no difficulty. The first death came from Chez, falling in the slime just before the ceiling drop. Thunder saw this as an opportunity to create a nice lead. Unfortunately, that came to a screeching halt as he fell in the slime just before the falling shots!

Chez now had new life and took full advantage. A nice, quick cap gave Chez a 1-0 lead. Thunder was gaining ground but died at the falling shots, giving Chez a huge 1+ cap lead. It looked as though this would be over quickly. But, Chez made things interesting by dying in the exact same spot as Thunder, missing the second falling shot.

Thunder had new life, finishing off a cap to make it 1-1 a bit later. But the lead was just too big, and Chez finished things off about 30 secs after Thunder’s cap. Map 3 to Chez!

Cheziie win by 2 to 1

Fourth level: ResearchFacilityRE (Chupas Netherlands)
Boy this one was full of twists and turns! Chez was a bit faster on this map, opening up a 5 sec lead. Both players knew the map well, and the first mistake was a nonfatal one. Thunder missed the dodge onto the small platform just before the laser wall, causing him to redo the room. This opened up a nice lead for Chez.

Just when things were looking good for Chez, they all changed in a heartbeat. After grabbing the flag and moving to cap, Chez missed the dodge and died on the last floor obstacle. OUCH! That one hurt a bit to watch. Now things were going Thunder’s way, as he capped and made it 1-0 not long after the death.

Chez made a valiant effort to catch up, adding a cap to make it 1-1. But Chez needed Thunder to make a catastrophic mistake. Ask, and you shall receive. Thunder was headed to a nice 2-1 map win when BAM, the rotating mover ate him up. I know that glitch thing can be a pain sometimes. This gave Chez new life as it was 1-1 and a 20 sec lead.

Moving into the same laser wall room Thunder had failed in early on, Chez fell the first time through. No worries since that 20 sec lead gave another shot. But the second time, Chez failed again!! With a chance to close this match out, things were not going Chez’s way. Going to the button for try number three, but this time Thunder had caught up. They were literally in identical spots. Is the third time a charm? Not for Chez. Fail x3. Thunder took full advantage and capped out for a 2-1 map win.

Thunderdome win by 2 to 1

Fifth level: Luxor (Chupa Netherlands)
Nothing like a good tiebreaker to test the nerves! Both players started off this short map neck and neck. It all boiled down to who would make the first mistake. On the first run, neither did. Each player capped within a second of each other, with Thunder having an ever so slight lead.

Run two went the same as the first, with both players near mirror images. Thunder opened up an ever so slight 2 sec lead and it looked like it would be a close one. Alas, Chez had other plans. On a short map where 1 death makes the difference, Chez obliged.

As they both neared the end of the map, Chez missed the short jump immediately before the fall/shot and splashed into the lava. That was game, set, and match. Chez threw in another early death but it didn’t matter. Thunder finished things off with a nice comeback win.

Thunderdome win by 2 to 1

Conclusion
A very close match decided by a couple of poorly timed deaths. Chez had a couple opportunities to finish this one off on maps 4 and 5. But this was Thunder's day. This is what I expected from a couple 2-0 players and both should do well as they move forward. Possible playoff rematch in their futures?

To be honest i didnt play well during this match, but lucky for me chez also didn't. And lucky for me she made more mistakes. And the decider could have gone otherwise if she capped faster or even the match already could have been ended at Researchfacility when she didnt failed the button sequence three times.

So again I was just very lucky.

Thanks for the thrilling match!

And thanks for the report Sypher!
